After the 1st fill, all painter and decorators will say to clean all equipment thoroughly and dispose of any un-used filler accordingly. Now you need to let the dry lining filler dry out and when it has look for any lumps (you may not have many if your work is tidy) and scrape them off, now with your glass paper you need to lightly rub out any thick edges (again if you are doing this correctly you should have very few edges and any edges you do have should be un severe).

Now it is time to repeat the process with the 2nd and the 3rd coats of filler, you have a choice here, if you are fairly speedy and efficient you can just go straight onto your plasterboards with the additional coats of filler, however if you aren’t yet very efficient and you find yourself going back over the channels of filler to try and flatten then we recommend you “seal” the wall with a coat of drywall sealer or pva using a brush and roller, this should give you more working time and stop the filler from drying out as quickly and “tearing”.

After you have completed the 3rd fill and when all the filler is dried you need to rub you filler down, we recommend wearing a dust mask, you are looking to rub out any edges or imperfections, (if you have executed the filling and prep properly these edges and imperfections won’t be too severe), you don’t want to “over-rub” it either, just a relatively light rub is hopefully all that is required.
