You need to do this if you hope to achieve a good finish! Results will vary depending on your attention detail, hand skills, what condition the surfaces are before you start, and how much you try and implement the below information; remember the more prep work you put in, the better the end result is likely to be. If your surfaces are in really bad condition, you should consider hanging lining paper, after the preparation, but before the finishes are applied or in the most extreme cases, having the surfaces re-plastered (see tradespersons in your area):

All decorators will say to clear the room as much as possible and put all large furniture you cannot move out of the room in the centre and cover all surfaces to be kept clean with dust sheets (if anything needs to be kept completely dust free we recommend covering using polythene first then dust sheets on top of that), and lightweight polythene or newspaper on delicate surfaces.

Before you start you are likely to need:Dust sheets, a scraper, filling knife(s), caulking blade, filler,

, pinchers, a hammer, skeleton  gun, tubes of caulk, glass paper, dust mask, safety gloves and a Stanley type knife.
